An idea was born

Katharina, one of our founders, came up with the idea for foodloose during her studies in California in 2009. Student snacks were needed to get her through the long days at university. But conventional mixtures quickly got the better of her. So she put together her own mix of fruits and nuts.

However, the original idea was born when Katherine met Verena during exchange student semester in Barcelona long before that.  In 2011, they officially pursued their mission together and brought foodloose to life.

The positive stubborness in us

We want to change something. We want to do things differently. We want to build a company that has a positive impact. We want to produce natural snacks without industrial sugar and create taste explosions.

As Female Founders, we are a rarity in the food business. Part of our personal happiness comes from leaving a positive impact by what we do. That's what we want to achieve with foodloose.

It simply tastes good

Trust is precious.

At the heart of everything we do is quality.

All our recipes are developed by ourselves and we love to create real taste explosions from the best organic raw materials.

Climate Neutral

Together with ClimatePartner, we have reached climate neutrality for our company and all our products following three steps.

We first calculated our CO2 emissions and took all our emissions into account, for example emissions from the cultivation of raw materials, transport to retailers and the disposal of packaging. Avoiding and reducing emissions is our top priority, which we are already doing wherever possible, for example by reducing packaging waste. For remaining emissions which we have yet to find a solution, we take responsibility and compensate them by supporting an internationally verified climate protection project for the use of biomass as fossil-free energy in Soacha, Colombia.

Our products are plastic neutral

Our goal is to act sustainably and protect the environment. This is why we are taking action together with Cleanhub: as a certified partner company, we are helping to rid our planet of plastic waste and thus reduce the creation of ocean plastic.

For the amount plastic we use in production, we donate to a project with "Green Worm Waste Management" in Kerala, India to enable collection and recycling of same amount of plastic waste from coastal regions.

The collection service is provided by women's self-help groups in Mattannur, India and creates important jobs in the region. At the same time, we are promoting an expansion of the model in India.

Sustainable Packaging

Our packaging is not only a guarantee for the best possible taste and freshness of our snacks, but also complies with hygiene standards. Optimal shelf life also reduces food waste and is therefore an important part of our mission.

Unfortunately, we haven't found any plastic-free packaging that meets the product requirements and can be recycled yet. Until we have found the optimal packaging solution, we are using a so-called mono-material. Our packaging can simply be disposed of in the yellow bin and thus be recycled again. We have consulted with various packaging as well as circular economy experts. They have recommended us to use only one material layer.

Therefore, we have reduced the thickness of our packaging as a first step. Together with Cleanhub, we also offset the amount of packaging we put into circulation each year by financially supporting a waste collection project in Kerala. Thus, for each of our foodloose snacks sold, we finance the collection of plastic waste equivalent to the weight of our packaging.
